7:52 am - I'm team captain, baby
Wanna see womens choir kick the snot out of mens choir? Come see us battle it out at the dodgeball tournament. It's gonna be beast.

AAAAAaaaannnndddd, everone should come out to the instrumental and choral winter concerts, December 14 and 21. I play tuba, I sing gospel, I do it all.

Oh, and I got told a random sketchy Byron story by someone who does not do theater. It made my day.

5:09 pm - Shana is...alive?
I re-emerge into the light, a little bruised, but smiling.

I have actually never done a + - thing...ever. Well, there's always a first time for everything. So, my life thus far:

+ Funny Girl Performances
+ Funny Girl Ended
- Last Whitman Musical ever
++ Get to focus on Sarah Play!
- Computer malfunctions hinder me from sending out my scene breakdown
+++ Orchestra. Seriously, it is my favorite music class this year. Its so cool, we're making T-shirts...seriously.
- Band. I hate Matt Lee and many others who suck
+ Tuba lesson for the first time in weeks
- Wasn't able to try out for all state or all county (and I'm pretty sure I would have made county)
- School tuba sssuuuuuuuccckks.
+ English. R & G are dead, Waiting for Godot, Hamlet, Return of the Native, Coker in general EVERYTHING. LOves it!
+ got Coker for 2nd semester
+/- Ushering at BAPA
-- Whitman Idol. I have a complete handle on things now, negotiations are in progress, but holy moses. To quote Mrs. Webster "I just don't know what to do..." I mean, me and Sarah will end up having a blast and such, but the journey suuuucks
--- SAT II registration was lost
+++++++ Rogers is getting me in stand-by slightly illegally (as in, I already have my form)
+ Maryland app submitted
+ Wisconsin app submitted
- Dentist. I have a cavity, and now must yet again get new perscription mouthwash
+ Chorus. I know/ love my part sooooooo much
- Other people don't know their part but refuse to use music. WTF.
-headache of the century
-- Took ibuprophen for headache, had a reaction. Was rendered immoble for several hours
+/- Jackie
++++ Its senior year, and I'm caught up on my school work!
+ Sarah Play auditions!!

Total: +11 Not bad at all!

Oh, and I'm using Disney Princess stamps for my transcripts/apps. YES.

current mood: busy

1:24 pm - I'm home sick...ugh
Homecoming was so much fun. Probably the best I've been to. I loved my dress, everyone else's dress, Greg's Yellow Submarine tie, Pierre's "European sense of style", D Rob dancing until you could see the crew shirt underneath his green one, Andrew reminding him yet again about how I taught him to freak dance. Lots of fun dancing, fun people, yummy food, and it seemed to go by so fast. And the combination of Marcus and John Weithorn made my highschool career come full circle. Oh, and Sam Grezes. Fabulous.

My soup's almost ready, and I definatly feel like shit, but this weekend was a blast!

10:18 pm - SENIORS NEVER DIE 007
WE WON BATTLE OF THE CLASSES! Holy shit, it was so close, but it was so much fun. Senior tailgaiting, guy poms, supreme school spirit...who knew we had it in us? I'm so excited, I can't even handle it. Spirit Week has been great, and I can't wait to wear the senior girls shirts tomarrow. Then my last football game/pep band EVER. Then the dance...which will be kick ass.

Oh, and I got a picture of all the cool techies wearing bright ORANGE. not black. Even Ryn. These scandalous photos will be up on facebook soon, not to worry.

I def. had one of those senior year moments that you see on TV, complete with a couple of rounds of "Let's go down to the disco"

Oh, and I just lost the game.

7:40 am - Worst day in the history of Shana...ended nicely?
Yesterday was probably the biggest roller coaster ride ever. I won't go into it, but if you caught any piece of it...I was in classic Shana form. Crying, cursing, having trouble breathing, extreme stomache pain, the whole bit. Luckily though, I got through it and it all ened well, because of a very fun Sarah Play Meeting. And crazy antics on behalf of the stage management team to the directorial team. A production actually helping me to de-stress? Carzy. But I like it, I feel in charge, on top of it, and like everything is in my control, and I can handle it.

Oh, and Rachael and I decided that we did indeed look alike with our hair up, and thus I am never to have my hair up during rehersals.

oooooh!! I forgot! I get to sit in the booth on headset for on the the performances of The Little Prince at RHT! Its going to be a great learning experience (as we havent ever called a show at Whitman. Which makes sense, considering we havent ever owned any headsets) and also, its just really really COOL.

Who loves having Tech Ed w/ Wetzel 1st period? I do!

So, today is also literary character day, and I am dressed as Oedipus. I'm wearing a toga, put X's over my eyes and am wearing a sign that says "I <3 my Mommy". Fabulous, I'd do it even if I didn't get the 25 points. Vali is dressed up as Grendel, and is walking around very furry, and very emo. MoMo is Don Quixote, with fake horse and everything. And mollie is the chick (I forget her name... something Golightly?) from Breakfast at Tiffany's and looks absolutly *perfect*

YAY for spirit week and Halloween all in one!

7:31 am - Choir CD came out...kick ass!
So, we're having Literary character day on Oct. 31 for 25 points. Anny suggestions? It has to be from literature of an "AP English" standard. I'm contemplating being Oedipus, wearing a toha and drawing X's over my eyes...but we'll see

11:57 am - I'm going to be hobo for Halloween, so I can wear lots of warm layers for trick-or-treating
Sometimes, nothing is quite as satisfying as wearing a fun, flouncy, pleated skirt with leggings on a cold fall morning.

10:51 pm - hmmm....
Its one of those weeks that I'm glad I didn't update. I'm so exhausted, both emotionally and physically (my legs and arms are a lovely shade of purple), and I'm just taking one day at a time. If they get divorced...that's the way it goes. If they don't, well, then, someone needs to get a grip with their sanity, and its not Dad.

The football game was amazing last night, and pep band was a blast. I baked cupcakes (which caused a whole other stink with mom that I won't get into) and I got many hugs. Which are nice. The freshmen didn't suck...badly. lol.

College apps are...going, which is good. I'll be glad when Dad gets back from his gig so he pay for them, so I don't have to go through mom.

Good moment with mom: we watched "Follow that Bird", which is most def the greatest movie ever created.

Oh, Sarah Play production meeting on Monday? HELLS YES.

8:38 pm - UMD fun w/the fabulous Sara!!
So, right now I'm sitting quietly in the back (or rather the audience) Sara's rehearsal in the black box. A directorial student is directing a scene, and they've been scurrying around creating their scene...and it actually looks so cool. My favorite part is the "couch" which is three wooden chairs placed side by side, with the black piano cover over them and a quilt on top of that.

So far my day has been a blast. Sara's given me the grand tour, and we've been walking around campus, hanging in her dorm, walking around campus again, going back tot he dorm, meeting up with Melissa, etc. Oh, and we got ice cream and went bowling. We ate dinner with these people, Kyra and Ben (sara says it's david), and surprisingly, it wasn't awkward at all. Theatre majors (and random cute male non-theatre majors who are curious about theatre) are really nice.

So, I really like UMCP...a lot. And I like the fact I can major in theatre and still become a nurse. I'm actually seriously entertaining the idea of theater as a major, and stage managing professionally. But we'll see. I reserve judgment...maybe my experience at Roundhouse will be a deciding factor. I feel like I almost can't even consider this as a possibility, because, unlike my fellow cohorts, I haven't wanted to do this since forever. I feel like I have to hide it from certain people (who I don't wish to name, but don't read my LJ anyway) so that I don't get judged, and well, deemed unworthy. But none of this talk, I'M HAVING FUN!

I can't wait until we stay up all night and gossip on the floor of Sara's dorm, eating all the cookies I brought...good times in store.

4:05 pm - T.G.I.F.
You know its going to be a good day when Muareen, always so quiet in class, is giggling, turning around in her seat, and handing out chocolate.

I'm getting quite a bit nervous about all-state auditions (this being band, not chorus). I mean, even at my best, I doubt I'd get in, but it would be so cool. I need to do more with my tuba. I love it, and I'm thinking of participating in 'A Tuba Christmas'. Because I'm Jewish, it might be my only oppertunity to wear a Santa hat, but we'll see =).

Whitman Idol auditions are soon. Please tell all your friends to audition because I am stage managing this year, and IT WILL BE A BLAST. Oh, and the proceeds go to a wonderful charity, so even if you cant sing (or dont go to whitman) so come to hear some very talented singers!

Oh, I forgot the best part of this upcomming weekend:

"I'm as happy as a pig in poop."

6:59 pm - "Is 'imbassoon' a word? What if they play *really* badly?"--Scrabble game w/mom
Tedium is the worst pain.--Grendel

So, I am a horrable person and I am putting off my Grendel/Beowulf paper. Its due tomarrow, and I can't bring myself to write it.

I have a dentist appointment soon, I may see if I can crash a Forum rehersal. Crashing last years Urinetown rehersal was so much fun.

I lost my all-state music. I thought I was going to cry. Ms. Alvey saved the day, but that was the scariest moment of my life.

My life has turned into one-liners. Some certain music teachers say that it is because I am too tired to form a coherent paragraph. Silly music department.

Today my tuba teacher played me a recoring of a mexican sousaphone player. GREATEST. THING. EVER.

Fasting went pretty well on Monday, 26 hours w/o food or drink in total. It helps when you literally spend the whole day in services.

And now I leave y'all to focus on acedmics.

10:20 pm - Come taste the wine, come hear the band, come blow your horn...
So, today went pretty well, despite the fact that teaching concert band to march was a disaster.

We had our 1st singing test in chorus this year, and I did well. Like the best I've ever done...ever. And my Christin-ee-ay and I have reunited, and planned a nice lunch.

So, the brass section of orchestra (and by that I mean me, DRob, greg, and Polly, excluding all french horns) are trying to make T-shirts. So far we've decided that they are going to be an atrocious shade of orange with ugly purple writing, and fun nicknames. DRob's: Twinkle Toes (created by me) Mine: That bitch with the tuba or I AM the tuba (created by DRob). The only problem is, we cant think of anything witty to say on the front of the shirts. Looking for suggestions. the problem is that they cant have any real curse words, because Greg is mormon and wouldnt be able to read his shirt out loud.

6:54 pm - here we go...
Okay, here's one of my college essays. I'm not too confident, and its 26 words too many, but I'd love to hear some feedback.

Read more...Collapse )

I'm not the best writer, so I think there will be many more drafts before I'm satisfied.

4:13 pm - "Do you wanna be an alto II? Because we're hella tight"
So, I shall list my day in bullet points because I have bad punctuation, and no one cares about punctuation when you write in bullet points.

- I realise this is more of a dash rather than a bullet shape
- Quartet test in womens tomarrow. i'm SO ready its rediculous. Singing on the seal today in class? An orgasm in latin. (gross.)
- I was basically the only brass member in orchestra today. I recieved many compliments and a sore lip (playing a correct volume of fff is difficult when only one out of the three of you is there)
- I found out that our tape tests have to recorded on CD. I have no idea how to do that
- I have to make my sign to advertise that my trebles dress is for sale. but because mr. d said that it didn't have to be 8.5 x 11, it will be a huge construction paper masterpiece.
- M*A*S*H marathon with Mollie. We got far too much apple pie
- On measure 114 in my orchestra music, someone has written "Be a hero"

Oh, and yesterday, someone let me break into their house to get a prop. jen should never drive me around when she's had too much coffee.

8:33 pm - And thus Shana learned that she should probably just stick to playing tuba
I'm much too tired to elaborate, but one single phrase can sum up my week:

Oye vey.

I need some sunshine to snap out of it.

4:41 pm - Aaarrrr, it be national talk like a pirate day!
So, my fabulous senior year so far, in bullet point format.

-I am in mother-fucking symphonic orchestra. and I sit next to D-Rob and Greg. One of the pieces we're working on has the trombone parts written in either Treble or Tenor clef. Considering that Greg can read bass clef, this has produced some quick sightreading and transposing at the same time induced hilarious results. But brass sounds good, damn good. Plus today, my tuba fell off my chair while I was holding a long note at a crescendo. Damn you, F directly below the staff. It ended up sounding like "buuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmwaaaaaahwarrrd. "shit"." And I have a bruised leg. What I do for art... =)

-We are playing 'October' by Eric Whitacre in band. You can tell by the first note who wrote it. I have a very pretty, emotional part, and that is very rare in band music.

-Mr. Song as student band teacher = hilarious asian jokes (by him)

- Advanced Womens Ensemble: the estro chambers for a new generation. Today's rehersal wasnt that good, but overall...wonderful.

- I am choosing pieces to record and send to colleges. Scary, but Matt G to the len will record me in his basement for free...awesome.

- Ultra secret chorale composing = crypticly delicious love.

- APUSH. when in doubt, the Puritans did it.

- I met Alan Alda.

- Marching band conductor has become fun. Please, everyone, come to a game and cheer me on. I'm the one on the ladder who isnt Andrew Burger

- I had a major props crisis created by someone else, but solved quickly by me. go team.

Wow, i have a crazy stream of thought. Perhaps this should be my next college essay? I'll end it with the hidden track on my tuba cd that Matt and I have planned:

*insert Matt-style beatboxing*
"Yo my name is Shana and I like to knit and play tuba, so suck on that mother fuckahs!"
