Well, most of the cast went to the contra dancing (squaredancing) lesson/dance at Glen Echo tonight, including Marcia and Richard. Me, Andy, and Jesse got there early so we played on this really kick-ass playground whose equipment looked like modern art gone wrong. We saw a sketchy, half falling down shack, to which Jesse responded with "That's where byron lives" I would have laughed so hard had I not been extreamly dizzy from twirling around on this spinning piece of jungle gym.

the lesson was first, and they gave us these "first time dancer pins" so that when other people arrived they would know and be able to help us. We knew a lot of the steps alteady, but the style was quite different. The lesson ended early, so we did our own version of The Virignia Reel to the band's warm-up. The band people were so impressed that they came down off the stage and played some music while Lizzy and Bennet called "That's the way the people blend" and we did our dance. Then the real people arrived, and the dance began. i can describe it in two words: "sketchy men". Some of them were kind, friendly, old people, but some were just scary. the highlights included the fat guy with no shoes, the man in a rainbow skirt and spandex, as well as the large hairy man in a kilt who took our group picture. There was also this really scary, very tan guy who I had to dance with who was hitting on me and didnt understand the concept of personal space. Othere than that, it was quite fun. Richard, despite his theatre/gay background, is a very band dancer. But he tried really hard, and he was just a sweaty and nasty at the end as the rest of us.

Overall, good, classically awkward BAPA times.


Oh! I finally got my stupid solo in "Natchez Trace" down. Just proof that i can actually carry a tune and my being there wasnt a fluke.
